Our sincere thanks to Alexa Whiteman, Kerry Berthelon, Sabrina Aichoun and Julia Macpherson from Girl Scout troop 5406 in Eltingville Staten Island. The troop raised $150 to help homeless animals by selling pens and wallets that they made. They also donated food, toys and treats! Well done!

A big thank you to our friends at Bay Ridge Nissan. Through their matching Facebook fundraiser program they raised $1,246.00 to help homeless animals. Representing us for the check presentation were Lisa Rooney, Marcia Shey, Jo Ann and Tony Raimondi.

Our thanks to the students of Public School 3 - The Margaret Gioiosa Pleasant Planes School in Staten Island for participating in "Project Paws", a community service project to collect new and gently used items for dogs and cats waiting to be adopted through P.L.U.T.O. Rescue. Team 2-205 spearheaded "Project Paws" by collecting items such as food bowls, dog and cat food, leashes, beds, toys, bones, dental chews, treats, collars, and other items that dogs and cats can use. Additional thanks to Principal Judith Wilson and teacher Dorothy Cabello for making this possible.

A big thank you to Mary & Erin McTarsney from Staten Island Girl Scout Troup 5232. They donated a wonderful collection of pet supplies to help the familes affected by Hurricane Sandy.

P.L.U.T.O. Rescue received $800 from South Richmond High School/P25R, Pleasant Plains. The presentation was made on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the school to our volunteer and foster mom, Leslie Wallace (R).The donation came courtesy of the Step Ahead Entrepreneurship program. As part of the program, students created a bakery business on-site using the school's bake shop. On hand was student Rafael Barrios (C) and South Shore City Councilman Vincent Ignizio (L), who provided funding for the program. The donation included pet food. JUNE 6, 2012 - STATEN ISLAND, N.Y . - MIDLAND BEACH - Families served by Project Hospitality and dogs from P.L.U.T.O. Rescue were presented donations from residents at Island Shores Senior Residence for older adults on Father Capodanno Boulevard. Residents raised just under $2,500 during their annual holiday fair last year, and wanted to give back to worthy Staten Island charities. Project Hospitality, the Port Richmond-based non-profit that feeds the hungry and shelters homeless families and adults on Staten Island, received a big-screen television to facilitate family activities. Pet Lovers United Together as One (P.L.U.T.O.) Rescue, an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue center, received a donation of just over $1,200. "Our residents are an important part of the fabric of Staten Island, and they wanted to give back to the community," said Kimberly Brown, director of community outreach for Island Shores. "I enjoy doing all the work. If my work helps someone in need, I feel good," said resident Lucy Divillo. Residents made the holiday fair a success by crafting, wrapping gift baskets, and decorating for the party. The organizations receiving the gifts said they will be put to good use. "We are so grateful to Island Shores for this gift," said the Rev. Terry Troia, executive director of Project Hospitality. "This gift will be an integral part of family and youth learning, and advance the education of our youth and families," she said. "We will be able to show educational videos for our families, offer movie nights to community youth, use the TV in training, class work, and workshops." Brad Shey, a volunteer with P.L.U.T.O Rescue, said the seniors' donation will be used "to provide food shelter, medical care, vaccinations and spay/neuter for the cats and dogs that we rescue, until we can place them in a permanent, safe, and loving home." Island Shores is an all-inclusive living complex for older adults, providing private rooms, meals and social and recreation opportunities. For information go to www.islandshores.org.
